The needle of the car’s altimeter was marking 1500 meters altitude, only because the maximum height it could measure was 3000 m. The needle made the whole circle and a half. Yes 4500 meters. It´s crazy how landscape looks at that altitude in Bolivia. Lakes of weird and vivid colours: green, red, white; geysers spitting sulfur from the ground, volcanoes, some of the most crazy looking mountains, rocks that… Ok wait, stop… are we still in planet Earth? Was pretty sure Bolivia was in Planet Earth when I studied that location at school. So Bolivia is in Mars right? Ok, ok.
They call this mountain the Seven colours mountain, for its crazy gradient of reds, formed out of different sediments and minerals. It emerges in the middle of a flat desert landscape as an other worldly feature that makes us forget we are on Earth. And yes, Bolivia, apparently is still in Planet Earth and it’s unbelievable what we can see on this beautiful planet.
